AirPods 5 have not been announced. The strongest reporting points to two versions — standard and active-noise-cancelling — that could appear on September 9. macOS code supports the existence of two models, but reveals no final feature set. H3, better sound, and lower latency remain possibilities rather than specifications.
01 / Starting point
Has Apple confirmed AirPods 5?
No. Apple has announced an event for Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The invitation does not name AirPods 5 or disclose a design, chip, battery rating, price, or shipping date.
The distinction matters. The event date is official; the prospect of new entry-level AirPods comes from Bloomberg reporting carried by MacRumors and 9to5Mac. Until Apple presents the hardware, “AirPods 5” is a convenient name for an expected generation, not an Apple-confirmed product.

03 / Strongest signal
Why are two AirPods 5 models expected?
Mark Gurman reports that Apple is preparing two updates to its entry-level AirPods: a regular version and one with active noise cancellation. That would repeat the strategy Apple currently uses for AirPods 4.
The second clue comes from macOS 26.7. MacRumors identified the internal codes B868M and B868E; current AirPods 4 use B768M and B768E. The pattern points toward a new pair, but Apple has not publicly explained those references.
AirPods 5
Entry version without ANC. Price, case, and extra features remain unknown.
AirPods 5 with ANC
Noise-cancelling version. Adaptive Audio, Transparency, and wireless charging are plausible continuities, not confirmed specifications.
04 / Official baseline
AirPods 4 already set a demanding starting point
Apple currently sells AirPods 4 for USD 129 and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation for USD 179 in the United States. Both use the H2 chip, an open fit, Personalized Spatial Audio, Voice Isolation, hands-free Siri interaction, USB‑C, and IP54 resistance.
The ANC version adds Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode, wireless charging through Apple Watch or Qi chargers, and a speaker for Find My. Apple rates listening time at up to five hours per charge; with ANC enabled, that drops to four hours. The case takes the total to 30 hours without ANC or 20 hours with ANC enabled.

05 / Silicon and audio
H3 could matter, but it is not tied to AirPods 5 yet
Bloomberg reported in 2025 that Apple was developing an H3 chip aimed at lower latency and better audio quality. The crucial caveat is that Gurman did not say which model would introduce it or when. MacRumors considers AirPods 5 a plausible destination, but that remains an inference.
Lower delay and stronger processing
H3 could benefit gaming, calls, ANC, and adaptive audio. Without announced hardware, there are no defensible figures for latency, architecture, Bluetooth version, codecs, or power draw.
Driver design, frequency response, and microphones are equally unknown. “Better sound” is a reasonable expectation for a new generation, but it cannot be measured until Apple publishes details and independent testing begins.
06 / Two propositions
Noise cancellation would again define the range
If Apple retains the current structure, the standard model would prioritize accessibility and simplicity while the higher tier adds ANC. It would be reasonable to expect Adaptive Audio, Transparency, and a more capable case to continue, but none of those details has been confirmed.
Open listening
No ANC. Wireless charging, Find My speaker, battery, and control differences remain unknown.
Environmental control
Active noise cancellation is expected. Its effectiveness, Adaptive Audio, and Transparency features are not yet detailed.
An open fit does not seal the ear canal like AirPods Pro. Even with ANC, isolation may be weaker on aircraft, trains, and loud streets. The real fit and performance require finished hardware.
07 / Voice and ecosystem
Calls, Siri, and Apple Intelligence already have a foundation
AirPods 4 already support Voice Isolation, Siri interactions, Personalized Spatial Audio, and — on the ANC version — Live Translation powered by Apple Intelligence under Apple's device, language, and software requirements. Those are official baseline features, not a confirmed AirPods 5 upgrade list.
A newer chip could improve microphone processing, responsiveness, and efficiency, but there is no public evidence of new commands, call-quality metrics, or AirPods 5-exclusive Apple Intelligence features. Software updates for compatible AirPods should not be confused with hardware unique to a new generation.
08 / Shape and fit
Design is one of the largest unknowns
Apple redesigned AirPods 4 in 2024 and says the contour improves stability and comfort. Two years later, no solid report describes a specific AirPods 5 redesign. The open form could continue with fit refinements, but stem length, dimensions, controls, weight, and colors remain unconfirmed.
Comfort is highly personal with tipless earbuds. A concept render cannot support claims of a better fit; official dimensions and extended wear tests will be needed.

09 / Power and daily use
Battery, case, USB‑C, and Find My remain open questions
There are no reliable AirPods 5 battery figures. The official AirPods 4 baseline is up to five hours per charge and up to 30 hours with the case; the ANC version delivers up to four hours with cancellation and 20 hours total in that mode.
USB‑C is a highly likely continuation, but it is not yet a published AirPods 5 specification. Apple has not confirmed whether both cases will support wireless charging, include a Find My speaker, or improve location tracking. The new model's dust and water rating is also unknown.
10 / Separate project
AirPods 5 are not necessarily the camera-equipped AirPods
Do not merge the 2026 update with Visual Intelligence
macOS 26.7 also exposed a concept involving camera sensors and Visual Intelligence. Bloomberg now reports that the camera-equipped AirPods effort remains on track for 2027. The leaked version is described as separate from the standard and ANC AirPods 5 expected in 2026.
The visual sensors are described as contextual tools for Siri rather than conventional photo cameras. Even so, the name, design, privacy model, and schedule remain under development. None of those features should currently be attributed to AirPods 5.
11 / Useful comparison
AirPods 4 versus the expected AirPods 5
| Area | AirPods 4 · official | AirPods 5 · current expectation |
|---|---|---|
| Range | Standard and ANC | Two reported versions: standard and ANC. |
| Chip | H2 | Unconfirmed; H3 is a possibility. |
| Sound | AirPods 4 acoustic architecture and computational audio | Improvement expected, with no technical data. |
| Latency | No retail figure published | Lower delay is associated with the H3 project, not confirmed for this model. |
| ANC | Available on the USD 179 version | Reported for the upper tier. |
| Adaptive / Transparency | Available on AirPods 4 ANC | Plausible continuity; unconfirmed. |
| Battery | 5 h; 30 h with case. ANC: 4 h / 20 h. | Unconfirmed. |
| Case | USB‑C; ANC adds wireless charging and Find My speaker | USB‑C expected; tier differences unknown. |
| Resistance | IP54 | Unconfirmed. |
| US price | USD 129 / USD 179 | Unconfirmed; a hold or moderate increase is plausible. |
AirPods 4 ANC versus the expected AirPods 5 ANC
The new model would need to demonstrate a meaningful gain in cancellation, battery, sound, or latency to justify an upgrade. Today, there is not enough evidence to say it will beat AirPods 4 ANC in every area.
12 / Market
How much could they cost?
Apple keeps AirPods 4 at USD 129 and the ANC version at USD 179. Current reports provide no AirPods 5 pricing. Holding those levels is plausible; a modest increase is also possible if the chip or case changes.
Not official MSRP or a FASE NUEVE price.
A continuation or modest-increase scenario.
Editorial launch range, subject to tax, channel, inventory, and exchange-rate conditions.
Not a pre-order, quote, or official local price.
As a market reference on August 31, Mac Center lists AirPods 4 from roughly COP 559,000 and the ANC version around COP 799,000 on promotion; iShop shows references near COP 549,000 and COP 799,000. Those offers can change and do not predict launch pricing on their own.
How we built the Colombia range
We compared Apple's official US pricing with public Colombian retail prices for the current generation. We did not simply convert dollars into pesos and call that a local price; taxes, imports, logistics, warranty, early inventory, and retailer policy can all affect the result.
13 / Purchase decision
Should you buy AirPods 4 now or wait?
Sensible when you need them now
Their features, battery life, and pricing are verifiable. A genuine promotion may offer better value than paying full launch price for a new generation.
Sensible when there is no urgency
Only a few days remain before we learn whether AirPods 5 exist, what they cost, and what changes. Waiting removes much of the speculation.
There is no universal answer. Open-fit comfort, the need for ANC, the condition of your current earbuds, and local pricing matter more than the generation number. The comparison should be rebuilt after Apple publishes official specifications.
14 / Colombian buyers
What buyers in Colombia should expect
Even if Apple announces AirPods 5 on September 9, that does not guarantee immediate Colombian availability. Local date, COP price, channels, inventory, and warranty coverage all need confirmation.
FASE NUEVE will keep the product in upcoming-launch status until real commercial information exists. Follow the campaign in Pre-orders. For the wider event, see our iPhone 18 family report and Apple Watch Series 12 analysis.
15 / Sources and methodology
What comes from Apple, and what comes from reporting
Apple provides the event date and official AirPods 4 specifications. Bloomberg reporting, carried by MacRumors and 9to5Mac, supports the two-model expectation and possible September debut. B868M/B868E come from analysis of macOS 26.7. H3, better sound, and lower latency are treated as possibilities because the chip report did not identify a debut model. Colombia figures are editorial ranges based on current public retail pricing.
